Entry #9. Plant-Based Meat?

 A topic that I have found interesting and that I've seen quite often mentioned on television and social media would be plant based meat. Over the course of history, there have been many people looking for healthier food options/choices in order to give their bodies all of the essential nutrients and vitamins it needs while not trying to gain much weight. Therefore they tend to rely on plant based meat as it is seen as a healthy option rather than eating regular meat. I kind of find it bizarre that this is a thing as meat is suppose to come from animals and I feel like it sort of defeats the purpose of calling it meat. I thought this would an interesting topic to talk about as there seems to be more and more options for food as these foods are becoming "healthy." Personally, I am someone who eats meat on a regular basis due to my culture and the fact that it is extremely delicious. Nonetheless, I wanted to further research whether or not these "plant-based meats" are actually healthy as I have close ones on diets who are looking for and consuming products similar to this. 

Based on the research that I made, I found out that these plant-based meats have their benefits, but they also have their negatives just like any other thing. According to the article, it states "Plant-based ingredients are a source of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, which all have health benefits. Furthermore, research indicates that plant-based diets can be beneficial for weight managements, diabetes, and microbiome" (medicalnewstoday.com). These are really essential to the body and consuming foods like these also increases one's health, but it doesn't also mean that they don't have their own deficits. These foods tend to be high in sodium which is not good and it may also be high saturated fats. These are two things that need to have the right amount of it within the body or it can cause high blood pressure and it can raise cholesterol in your blood. 

Nevertheless, I feel like everyone has the right to eat, say, believe, and do whatever they want in life as we all only receive one. Just wanted to bring this point across just to inform people about certain precautious matters to take in before they consume these foods if they are interested in knowing the facts behind plant-based meat.
